Trailer Ideas

Trailer Ideas

These are notes that my group and I initially wrote when thinking of our trailer's narrative.
  • Opening with an extreme long shot to establish the location of our trailer. In the background there will be soft and happy music playing. We will be using ambient lighting. This will last for three seconds. Our concept developed from 'Insidious Chapter Two' trailer where they have a shot of the grandma's house. This ensures that the audience is able to recognise the location and the surrounding of the house. It ensures the isolation and eerie atmosphere later on through the trailer.
  • Our first shot in terms of including characters will be of a father and son playing a game of football in the back garden. This will be an extreme long shot to ensure the atmosphere is set. There will be dialogue of interaction between the father and son, but also keeping with the soft mellow music in the background. This highlights the happy environment the characters are in which as a turn, allows the audience to feel comfortable and relaxed. Again our inspiration came from 'Insidious Chapter Two' the opening scene of the father and son interacting in a playful manner. We decided this shot will last around four to five seconds. Again following with ambient bright lighting.
  • The next scene following is the ringing of the door bell where we are greeted with the fathers (Nicholas) sister (Nichole). She presents them with a box from their parents house full of Nicholas toys. This inspiration was how the box from 'The Possession' was bought into the spot light; through the yard sale. We found this very effective as we want the Jack in the box to be perceived as an ancient majestic toy box for children. The scene's audio will feature of Nichole explaining the bought about of the box and how she finds it at their family home.
  • This scene will feature a close up of the father running to the woods burring the Jack in the box. The audio in this particular scene will be of a thumping heart which we believe fits in well with the current scene playing.
  • The reappearance of the Jack in the box will take place into the kitchen were the child (Issac) will take it to his room and play with it. We thought this was appropriate as we do not want Issac's parents to see the box just yet. The reappearance presents to the audience the strong connection the box has to the family especially the young children within the family.
  • The next scene will again be in Issac's bedroom where we see the child asleep and the Jack in the box turning and playing on its own. This ensures the audience to understand there is something supernatural within and the main victim will be children.
  • We see Nicholas coming down from his bedroom as he appears to hear the Jack in the box playing. There will be a cross cut in between the evil sliding under Issac's covers and Nicholas walking down to Issac's bedroom. Issac gets possessed in between this scene unfolding.
  • Nicholas is now in Issac's room where he awakes Issac to find his eyes to be black. This then cuts to the beginning of the montage.
  • The Montage will feature:
  1. The mother and father sleeping, Issac at the bottom of the bed. Amelia (Mother) calls out and Issac does not respond, cautiously walks up to Issac, he grabs her hand and twists it. We hear a bone cracking sound.
  2. Father on the phone to the priest stating how its happening again
  3. An Exorcism of Issac by the priest
  4. Scene of the father (Nicholas) screaming and in distress
  5. Amelia being dragged across the floor
  6. Moving Objects
  7. Door Slams
  8. Rocking chair
  • We will finish with a Sting where the mother (Amelia) walks to Issac's door and he jumps at her. We can hear Issac calling for his mother to come to him.
